Message from Coach Mohammed

Greetings, Wellesley Soccer Alumnae! Thanks for taking the time to visit our new Coaches Corner. I hope this message finds you fit and well. As we continue to move forward with this new initiative, my goal is to capture the essence of Wellesley Soccer while keeping you up to date with what we're 'kicking around.' So please enjoy!

From the crisp fall mornings of preseason, through the harness of the November winds, the 2007 season continued to be a year of firsts. It was the first year with a new coach (yours truly); the first time we won the Wellesley Invitational Tournament in seven years; the first time we beat a nationally-ranked team in four years (Springfield #25); and the first time we advanced to the NEWMAC Tournament semi-final since 2004. Yes, it's a mouthful and, all things considered, we had lots to celebrate.

The highlight of the year was the Wheaton game, hands down. At the time the Mighty Blue were playing quality soccer with a distinctive 'joie de vivre,' and the 90-minute battle that ensued was Wellesley Soccer at its best. Although we didn't get the result we wanted, we did manage a close margin (3-2) against the nation's #7, played with tremendous courage, and found a new sense of pride that carried us through the remainder of the season.

With the core of players returning in 2008, and a solid group of first-years brimming with ability, next year should prove to be another step in a positive direction.

Thanks for checking in, stay tuned for updates on our spring training, a word from the team, announcements on our official recruiting class, and did someone say alumnae game?
