Hello Wellesley Squashers,
As we close our first season as the newly reinstated Varsity squash team I am pleased to be able to report that the team finished the season with a very respectable 8-7 in match results overall, finishing in 23rd position in the rankings after the College Squash Association’s Howe Cup Team Championships.
The team was comprised of players who had played high school squash plus several Wellesley PE class recruits. With only 8 previous club players at the beginning of the season, I recruited one freshman, one exchange student and one sophomore to swell the ranks to 11. Two were raw beginners and one had only played tennis before, but they proved to be invaluable team members as all three notched up important wins for the team.
Halfway through the season Tony Mohammed, the Wellesley soccer coach, lent his support as my Assistant and helped get the players into shape for the matches in the second half of the season. Practicing and playing at Dana Hall School three times a week gave the team valuable experience of playing on international sized courts.
I hope you’ll keep in touch with me through this coach’s corner squash page. In addition, you can keep up-to-date with what’s happening in the world of Wellesley squash by visiting our new blog (http://www.wellesleysquash.blogspot.com) where you can also contribute your comments.
Keep on squashing!
