The New Year started off with the team heading for Ponce, Puerto Rico for our training trip.  Every thing was wonderful, but the best aspect for me was having all 8 lanes to our selves for every practice!  This allowed us to spread out and to adjust the intervals for each lane.  The divers had their own diving well, pool time and MUCH warmer weather than the last few years! 

We returned to Wellesley for a quad meet against Wheaton (a loss), Vassar and Clark (two wins), followed by a tri-meet against Babson and USCGA (both wins).  This past weekend we won the Seven Sisters Championship, our eleventh in a row!  We won nine events and placed eight on the All Tournament Team (Dutton, Gram, Hanna, Johnson, Mitten, Poon, Simas and Wu).

The season has been going well with records falling already!  Kate ‘Sprout’ Sorenson has taken over the top spot on both the one and three meter boards for six dives.  Alex Simas, a first year, set a new school record in the 1000 free and just missed the 1650.  

Sprout has also achieved consideration scores on both boards for the NCAA Championships.  Cathy Poon, also first year, has also achieved a B standard for the 50 freestyle.  Savanna Johnson spent 2 weeks last spring as the fastest DIII 50 freestyler in the country having swum a 23.69 at the NEWMAC Championships.  She severely sprained her ankle this summer and we are working to get back into shape with hopes of her third trip to NCAAs.  We are also working hard in hopes of more individual and relay qualifiers.

The team has already achieved several life time bests and we haven’t had a shave and taper yet, so we are anticipation some great championship swims.  Some of the swimmers and divers who have already achieved LTBs include Dana Dutton, Christine and Victoria Nichols, Alex Stark, Ginger Howell, Steph Xiang, Laura Foley, Hilary Gram, Catie Foley and Sprout Sorenson.
