Wellesley Rowers Invited to USRowing Development Camps

WELLESLEY, Mass.  - Wellesley College crew team members Jackie Lewandowski (Chicago, IL) and Nicola Rentschler (Acton, MA) were recently invited to USRowing Under 23 Development Camps for the summer.

Lewandowski, who will be a senior in the fall, was invited to the Under 23 Development Camp at Thompson's Boat Center in Washington DC.  Rentschler, a rising sophomore, was invited to the Boston camp.

Training twice a day with collegiate rowers from around the nation, Lewandowski and Rentschler will row from the beginning of June through the end of July, culminating in competition at the USRowing National Championships.

"Getting invited to the development camp means that they are amazing athletes and that they are getting noticed," said head coach Tessa Spillane.  The U23 camps are USRowing sponsored programs and can feed into the national team down the road.

"They'll get great rowing experience and great coaching from some of the country's best coaches. It exposes them to sculling and more small boat rowing that we don't have the opportunity to do.  They can bring their experience back to the team, and it helps to raise the bar for everyone," adds Spillane.

Lewandowski and Rentschler join former Wellesley rower Meg Tabaka '06 as Blue Crew athletes who have been invited to camp under Spillane.  Tabaka finished her career as a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-American.
