Wellesley Cross Country Wins NEWMAC Post-Season Awards
Babington Named Coach of the Year

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced it's post-season awards on Wednesday.  Wellesley took home both pieces of hardware presented at the post-season meeting, winning the annual Sportmanship Award, as well as Coach of the Year honors for Head Coach John Babington.

The Sportsmanship Award is presented to the institution that most closely demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct.  The Wellesley cross country team was voted by it's peers as the 2009 honoree, the first for the Blue in the short history of the award.

Babington earns his seventh Coach of the Year honor.  Since the inception of the NEWMAC, he has won the award four times, 2009, 2005, 2000 and 1999.  In addition, he was named NEW 8 Coach of the Year three times, in 1993, 1994 and 1996. This season, Babington guided the Blue to a second-place finish at the NEWMAC Championship, improving on a fifth-place finish in 2008.

Wellesley also earned two All-Conference awards, decided on by finish at Saturday's Championship race. First-year Randelle Boots (Seekonk, MA) took ninth place while classmate Claire Cummings (Norway, ME) finished 12th overall.

Wellesley returns to action at the NCAA Regional Championships on November 14th.  The meet will be hosted by the University of Southern Maine in Cumberland, ME.
