Kaliouby, Charlton Named Women's Fencing Coaching Staff of the Year
WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Northeast Fencing Conference recently announced their postseason coaching awards for the 2009 season with Gamil Kaliouby and Rob Charlton being honored as the Women's Coaching Staff of the Year.
Kaliouby (in his 13th season at Wellesley) and Charlton (in his fourth) led the Blue to a 9-6 record this season. Top performances included the Wellesley Invitational title and a fourth-place overall finish at the New England Championships, where the Blue captured a first-place finish in foil competition and second place in epee. Six Wellesley fencers qualified to compete at the NCAA Regional Championships, where sophomore Hannah Braaten took sixth place overall in foil.
In voting on the award, the NFC recognized that "the Wellesley team maintained a high level of enthusiasm and support for each other" throughout this season. With no seniors on this year's team, the Blue will return their full roster for the 2009-10 campaign.
