Wellesley Fencing Goes 3-4 in Northeast Conference Action

DURHAM, N.H . - The Wellesley College fencing team competed at the first Northeast Fencing Conference meet this weekend. Wellesley went 3-4 against tough competition, picking up wins over the University of Massachusetts, the University of New Hampshire and Boston University.

Against UMass, the Blue foil team swept their competition, 9-0 while the epee squad picked up a 7-2 win. Wellesley fell 3-6 in sabre but won the overall bout, 19-8.

In an 18-9 win over UNH, Wellesley swept both the foil and epee competition before falling in sabre. Rounding out the competition for the Blue, Wellesley won a tight 15-12 match against BU. The Blue won epee and foil 7-2.

Overall, Wellesley's epee squad went undefeated on the day.

Wellesley fencing returns to action on January 31, 2009. The Blue will host the Wellesley Invitational with Cornell, Hunter, NJIT, and UMass.
