Cushing Named NEWMAC Athlete of the Week
WELLESLEY, MA – Wellesley College first-year field hockey player
Kate Cushing (Danvers, MA) was named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week for the period ending September 16, 2007.
In a 3-0 week for the Blue, Cushing scored eight points on three goals and two assists. During Wellesley's 3-2 overtime win against Tufts, Cushing scored two goals. With the team down 2-1 in the 64th minute, Cushing found the back of the net to knot the game at 2-2. Later, she scored the game-winner in overtime for the Blue.
Over the weekend, Cushing continued her solid play in the Seven Sisters Tournament adding a goal and two assists to help Wellesley go 2-0 in the classic, with wins over Vassar and Elms.
Wellesley is 3-1 on the season and will be in action again on Wednesday, traveling to Gordon College for a match beginning at 4:00 p.m.
