Lekas, Frett, Cushing Named NFHCA All-Region

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College placed three field hockey players on the Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-Region Team.  Callie Lekas (Brewster, MA) was a first-team selection for the Blue, while Katie Frett (Hallowell, ME) and Kate Cushing (Danvers, MA) were placed on the New England East region second team.

Lekas, a senior forward, picked up her third straight first-team All-Region honors.  She ended her career at Wellesley racking up 56 goals and 22 assists for 134 career points. This season, Lekas led the Blue in scoring with 32 points and four game-winning goals.  In addition to her All-Region honors, she was also selected to the NEWMAC All-Conference first team for the third year in a row.

Frett, a junior forward, makes her third appearance on the All-Region second team.  She finished the season with 10 points, while also adding a game-winning goal and two defensive saves.  Frett was a first-team All-NEWMAC selection.

Cushing, a junior midfielder, earns her first All-Region honors.  She was second on the Blue in scoring with 25 points on the year, and also led the team with 11 assists.  Cushing was honored earlier in the season with a second-team All-NEWMAC honor.

Wellesley field hockey finished the 2009 season with an overall record of 12-8, 6-2 in the NEWMAC.  The Blue took home the NEWMAC regular season title and advanced to the NEWMAC semifinals before dropping a 3-2 overtime decision to Springfield.
