Williams Takes Team Title at Wellesley's Ann S. Batchelder Golf Invitational
Vassar's Alex Bello Earns Medalist Honors

Individual Final Results

WELLESLEY, Mass. –  Williams College took the team title at Wellesley's second annual Ann S. Batchelder Golf Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  Held at the par-72 Nehoiden Golf Course on the Wellesley College Campus, the event was shortened to a one-day tournament due to inclimate weather.

The Ephs used three top-five performances to take the team title with a score of 337.  Victoria Student (Tiburon, CA) led the Williams charge, carding an 81 to tie for second, while Anne O'Leary (Short Hills, NJ) and Mary Gelber (Winnetka, IL) posted matching rounds of 84 in a tie for fifth.

Individually, Vassar's Alex Bello (Avon Lake, OH) earned medalist honors for the second straight year.  The sophomore recorded a round of 79 to defend her title.

Coming in behind Bello, Student tied with Mount Holyoke's Sarah Keating (Bedford, MA) recording an 81 for second place, while Elaine Lin of Amherst took third with an 83.  Wellesley's Kim Eaton (Shepherdstown, WV) was part of a three way tie for fourth, carding an 84 with Williams' O'Leary and Gelber.

Amherst took second place in the event with a 341, four strokes behind Williams.  They were led by Lin who took fourth and Hayley Milbourn (Baltimore, MD) who took eighth with an 85.

Vassar took third overall with a 351 while the hosts finished fourth with a 359.  Rounding out the team scoring, Mount Holyoke finished fifth (362), Holy Cross took sixth (375) and William Smith placed seventh (401).

Ann S. Batchelder was a Wellesley faculty member for 38 years, teaching physical education and also serving as one of the school's varsity squash coaches.  She retired in spring of 2009, establishing a charitable gift annuity for the Friends of Wellesley College Athletics.  Her generosity created one of the largest gifts from a member of the College’s academic community and will benefit Wellesley student-athletes for years to come.
