Wellesley Soccer Players Earn All-Conference Honors

BABSON PARK, MA – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2007 Women's Soccer Post-season awards on Tuesday.   Wellesley teammate Jennifer Lau (Honolulu, HI) and Katie Martore (Great Falls, VA) were both named to the first team.

Lau, a senior midfielder, makes her second appearance on the All-Conference team after earning second team honors in 2006.  She finished the 2007 season tied for the team lead with nine goals for 18 points. In Wellesley's semi-final playoff game against Babson, Lau scored twice in one minute to narrow the Blue's deficit to one goal.

Martore, a sophomore goalkeeper, also makes her second All-NEWMAC appearance after a second-team honor in 2006.  As the team's starting keeper, she set the pace for the year after a MVP performance in the Wellesley Invitational which the Blue won in penalty kicks.  Martore finished the season with 130 saves and a 1.32 goals against average.

Wellesley finished the 2007 season with a 7-8-3 record after a tough 3-2 loss in the NEWMAC semi-finals.  Coming into the playoffs as the seven seed, the Blue completed one of the biggest upsets in program history in the first round after defeating nationally-ranked Springfield in penalty kicks. The win was the first playoff win for Wellesley since 2003.
