Wellesley Squash Competes at Wesleyan Round Robin
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wellesley College squash team wrapped up play at the Wesleyan Round Robin with losses to Notheastern and Columbia on Sunday. The Blue fell to Connecticut College and Wesleyan on day two and lost to Middlebury on Friday evening to open up the tournament.
Wellesley picked up a win by default against Northeastern to set the final to 8-1. Junior Kirsten Levandowski (Bethesda, MD) played the closest match for the Blue, falling 10-8 in the deciding game.
In a 9-0 loss to Columbia, Wellesley's Jackie Shaw (Washington Crossing, PA), Ashley Stevens (East Harwich, MA) and Cabelle Ahn Jaeun (Richmond, BC) all played tight matches, eventually losing in five games.
Against Connecticut, first-years Jaeun and Carrie Ng (Springfield, MA) and Levandowski all picked up wins for the Blue. Jaeun was a 9-7, 9-3, 9-2 winner in the fifth spot while Levandowski and Ng were winners in the eighth and ninth positions.
In a 7-2 loss to Wesleyam, Wellesley got both wins at the top of the ladder. In the number one spot, Junior
Sarah Odell (Chester Springs, PA)was a 9-2, 10-9, 6-9, 9-3 winner over Wesleyan's Casey Simchik. At number two, the Blue's Andrea Mui (Hong Kong, China) was a 9-4, 9-2, 9-4 winner over Gwynne Hunter.
On Friday against Middlebury, the Blue fell 9-0. Odell played the toughest match for the Blue, narrowly missing out on a victory in her first game. The co-captain was defeated in a close 10-8 game one before falling in her second and third games. Wellesley's other captain, Shaw lost a 9-4 first game before dropping the second and third.
Wellesley is back in action on Sunday at Wesleyan, concluding the round robin with matches against Columbia and Northeastern.
