Wellesley Squash Plays at Yale Round Robin

NEW HAVEN Conn. – This weekend the Wellesley Squash team traveled down to New Haven, CT to take part in the Yale Round Robin. The team played two matches at Yale on Saturday and then traveled to Middletown, CT to play Wesleyan University and New London, CT to play Connecticut College.

On Saturday at Yale, the Blue faced Colby College in the morning and Franklin and Marshall in the afternoon. The Blue were down to eight players, due to injuries at the no. 1 and 3 flights. With most players bumped up two spots, the Blue put up fight but were defeated by both Colby and Franklin and Marshall 9-0.

Sunday at Wesleyan the team battled the elements to make it to the 9:30 a.m. match. As the snow fell, the team rallied to put together some competitive matches. Andrea Mui played a stunning match against Wesleyan’s Liz Demakos. Mui placed the ball into the front pockets of the court, but it seemed as though Demakos could get to everything. All of the matches were tight, but eventually Demakos came out on top, 9/7, 9/7, 6/9, 10/8. Playing at the no. 8 position, Carrie Ng had a tight match as well, pushing her opponent deep into the back of the court. Ng lost 7/9, 7/9, 5/9. The bright spot of the weekend came in the Connecticut College match when novice player Alexandra Ewing scored the only win all weekend for the Blue against Conn. Ewing defeated Casey Corn of Conn in five games, 0/9, 3/9, 9/4, 9/6, 9/5.

The Blue are back in action this Saturday at the Mount Holyoke/Smith Round Robin.
