Wellesley Swimming & Diving On Top After Day One of Seven Sisters

Northampton, MA: Wellesley College leads the Seven Sisters Swimming and Diving Championship with a score of 744.5. Vassar College is currently in second place with 607.5, Smith College is in third place with 487, Mount Holyoke College is in fourth with 293, and Bryn Mawn College is in a close fifth place with 243 points.
Wellesley was able to take the lead with 6 of 13 first place finishes. The Blue took the first event of morning, the 200 free relay, with a time of 1:43:41. The relay team consisted of Cathy Poon (McLean, VA), Becky Hanna (Walnut, CA), Dana Dutton (Anacortes, WA), and Savana Johnson (Bloomington, IN). Wellesley also took first place in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:13:94. Competing on that relay team was Jenny Wu (Livingston, NJ), Johnson, Hilary Gram (Hopkinton, MA), and Dutton.
The Blue also took the final event of the evening, the 800 free relay, with a time of 8:17:41. Making up that relay squad was Alex Simas (Bellevue,WA), Emilie Mitten (Norwalk, CT), Dutton, and Wu. Wellesley also had strong showings in the individual events. Wu took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16:42, Poon captured first in the 50 free with a time of 25:06, and Johnson won the 100 breast with a time of 1:10:00.
The Smith Pioneers' day was highlighted by 4 first place finishes, including a new meet record set by Shanti Freitas (Evanston, IL) in the 1 meter diving event. With her score of 483.00 Freitas once again posted a score that would qualify her for nationals. Kate Sorenson (Bolton, MA), of Wellsely College, came in second in the 1 meter diving event, but her score of 430.10 was also a national qualifying score.
Vassar College took 3 first place finishes as well in route to their second place team standing. Their 200 medley relay team, consisting of Emily Love (South Windor, CT), Allison Koenker (Huntington Beach, CA), Jess Lenter (Florence, MA), and Jordana Jantze (Riverside, IL) took first place with a time of 1:58:91. Love also took first place in two individual events, the 200 free with a time of 1:58:12, and the 100 back with a time of 1:01:27.
Marly Pineda (Bosque Farms, NM) of Smith College had a strong first day, taking home two first places. She won the 500 free with a time of 5:16:29, as well as the 400 IM with a time of 4:46:96. Lily Seidman (Westfield, IN), also a Pioneer, took home a first place finish in the 100 fly event with a time of 1:01:05.
Day two of the Seven Sisters Swimming and Diving Championship will begin at 10:00 am with the 3-meter diving event.
