Sorenson Sets School Records as Wellesley Swimming & Diving Sweeps Tri-Meet

WELLESLEY, MA - Wellesley Diver Kate Sorenson (Bolton, MA) had a record-breaking day as the Blue's swimming and diving team cruised to wins over Babson and Coast Guard in a tri-meet at Chandler Pool.
Sorenson recorded NCAA qualifying scores en route to wins in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. In the 1-meter event she improved her school record to 272.18. In the 3-meter event, Sorenson broke a nine-year old record with a score of 288.60.
Sorenson's school records capped a dominating performance by Wellesley as the Blue placed no lower than second in every event. Wellesley competitors recorded seven first place finishes to defeat Babson 166-59 and Coast Guard 153-88.
Picking up wins for Wellesley were Dana Dutton (Anacortes, WA), Catherine Poon (McLean, VA), Jenny Wu (Livingston, NJ) and the "A" relay teams in both the 200-medley relay and the 200-free relay.
Dutton took first place in the 200-yard freesyle event. Her time of 2:03.94 edged out teammate Alex Simas (Bellevue, WA) who's time of 2:04.24 placed her second. Simas also took second place in both the 500- and the 1000-freestyle events.
In the 50-free, Poon took first place in a time of 24.60. Wu got her win in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:04.08 while Allie Williams (River Forest, IL) placed second in the event in 1:06.22.
In the 200-medley relay, the team of Elise Spedden (Clarksville, MD), Savanna Johnson (Bloomington, IN), Alex Stark (Moorestown, NJ), and Poon took top honors in a time of 1:56.56. In the 200-free relay, Johnson, Dutton, Poon and Becky Hanna (Hong Kong) combined for a time of 1:43.11 and a first-place finish.
Also scoring for Wellesley, Stephanie White (Wellesley, MA) took second place in the 1-meter diving event, scoring a 201.23.
The Blue will return to the pool on Saturday at 1:00pm when Wellesley hosts Smith College.
