Wellesley Swims for National Cancer Fundraising Event

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley College swimming and diving team will participate in the third annual Ted Mullin Hour of Power Relay on Thursday, November 6 from 5-6pm at the Chandler Pool.  The event is held in support of cancer research and is named in honor of former Carleton College swimmer Edward H. “Ted” Mullin, who passed away in September 2006 from a rare soft-tissue cancer called sarcoma.

Colleges across the country will hold an “hour of power” relay practice, running continuous relays for an hour with the goal of promoting team spirit and generating awareness of the impact of cancer on the lives of young adults.  Participants will gather pledges for the Ted Mullin Fund for Sarcoma Research at the University of Chicago, where Mullin underwent treatment.  Since the first relay in 2006, the event has raised more than $54,000.

A total of 75 collegiate swimming programs in 29 conferences will take part in this year’s event.  Other NEWMAC participants include Babson College, Clark University, Mount Holyoke College, Wheaton College, and WPI.
