Lauren Holzberg has been named the new assistant women’s tennis coach at Wellesley College beginning in the 2009-10 season.
Lauren Holzberg is a 2009 graduate of Penn State University with a baccalaureate degree in Kinesiology. The former Penn State tennis standout and all-Big Ten performer played #1 during her four years as a Nittany Lion. She received the ITA All-Academic Team Award, the Academic All-Big Ten Award, and the Big Ten Conference Scholar-Athlete Award. She helped lead the Nittany Lions to achieve a national ranking. She has over 50 singles wins and over 35 doubles wins. As a freshman she earned the best record for the team with an 18-6 win-loss in singles competition, including an 8-3 record vs. Big Ten opponents.
Holzberg, a New England native, was a nationally recognized junior player. She earned a USTA national ranking in the 14-, 16-, and 18-year old age groups. During her last year of juniors she was ranked No.1 by USTA New England. She was the 2005 recipient of the William Hoblitzelle Award for superior sportsmanship and leadership.
Lauren captured the 2003 Connecticut State Singles championship. She also helped her team win the state championship that year. Undefeated in high school, she was a 4 time South Western Conference single’s champion.
