Wellesley's Devine, Franek Win ITA Regional Awards

Wellesley, Mass. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation (ITA) recently announced it's regional award winners. Wellesley College senior tennis player Trish Devine (Westport, Mass.) and tennis coach Christine Franek, highlighted the awards for the Northeast Region.
Devine, a senior Political Science and Cinema & Media Studies major, was selected as the ITA/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winner for the Northeast Region. The award recognizes players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements. As a four-year athlete at Wellesley, Devine has a combined record of 110-36 (Singles: 46–18; Doubles: 64–18).
Franek earned her second ITA Regional Coach of the Year Honor after being previously recognized in 2006. Compiling a seven year record of 119-38, she led Wellesley to four-straight conference titles as well as four consecutive NCAA bids. Recently named a 2008 Sports Ethics Fellow by the Institute for International Sport and Positive Coaching Alliance at Stanford University, Franek will step down from her post at Wellesley following the 2007-08 season.
National award winners will be announced on May 15th at the NCAA Championship banquet.
