Banner 7 Helpful Hints and Tips

New Banner 7 Interface  

The following is a partial list of features offered in the new user interface.

Useful links can now be seen on the main menu.   The Banner bookshelf points to the complete Banner documentation set.  You can now customize up to six links on the main menu.  To do so, see the instructions in the Customizing Banner section below.  

Moving quickly to other forms:

GOTO – Enter form names or choose from previously opened forms

F5 – Strike the F5 key and a GOTO box will appear on the form

Choose File, Direct Access and enter form name or choose File and choose form listed at bottom of the drop down menu

Broadcast Messages:

 

System messages about downtime and upgrades will now be posted in the new message area at the bottom on the main menu.

 

Screen Resolution:

Banner requires a screen resolution of 1024x768.   To check or change your screen resolution on a PC:

Options Menu:

The Options menu may be accessed anywhere in the banner form by moving to a blank space on the form and clicking using your right mouse button. 

Tabbed Forms:

CTRL-Tab or CTRL-Page Down – moves forward through the forms in the tabs

CTRL-Shift-Tab or CTRL-Page Up – moves backwards through the forms in the tabs

Text, Fields and Radio Buttons:

Disabled text is now black, not gray, making it easier to see.  Radio Buttons/Check Boxes have changed to allow you to click on either the box/button or the text label .

Fields with a blue field name have a list of values available.  Fields with a search icon may be searched for a particular value.  Date fields that can be entered have a calendar icon where the date may be chosen.

Exit from Banner:

You can now exit from Banner without closing all forms first  or Return to the menu without closing all forms first.  Choose File Exit to see the options. 

Customizing your Banner Forms

To change your Personal Links, Colors and Form features and to see further customization options, go to the form GUAUPRF. 

Choose one of the tabs and change any of the options presented.  To override a default value, enter a new value in the box titled User Value.   After saving you changes, you must exit from Banner and restart a new session to see your new changes. 

To have a particular menu, such as the Student menu, open each time you start Banner, in the form GUAUPRF, choose Menu Settings and then in the User Default box enter one of the following, including the leading *:

*STUDENT for student

*ALUMNI for Advancement

*FINANCE for Finance

*RESOURCE for Financial Aid

*HRS for Human Resources/Payroll

*GENERAL for the General System

 

Banner Window Issues

Closes Unexpectedly after Opening another Web Page:

When you are in a Banner window and  then click on a web link, sometimes the Banner session closes.  To stop this from happening set your browser to always open a new window.  In Internet Explorer do the following:

Banner Menu appears to be jumping:

If you experience something that looks like the screen is jumping when you are using a Banner menu try the following:

If this is still not helping try moving the Task Bar from the bottom of the window:

Left-Hand Mouse Support

Banner 7 users who are unable to use the opposite mouse button should contact the Help Desk at x3333 for assistance in downloading a new mouse driver. 

 

Documentation and Additional Information

Banner Documentation is available by clicking on the Banner Bookshelf Icon . Once in the Banner Bookshelf:

·        select double-click on the book for your system (Banner Finance, Banner Financial Aid)

·        double- click on Release Guide

·        double-click on " New User Interface"

SCT has made available a General Fundamentals Training Guide General Fundamentals Training Guide in pdf form and an online Banner 7 Fundamentals course. It is not necessary to view these documents to realize the benefits of Banner7 but they are available for users interested in very detailed information on the new interface.
