Characteristics:
* Flowers composite, clustered at the top of the plant, whitish to yellow, with square-tipped rays, 1/2-1".
* Leaves and stem covered with fine black hairs.
* Height: 1-2'.

Natural History:
* Flowers June - August.
* Habitat: Meadows.
* Range: Southeastern Canada and northeastern United States.
* Introduced from Europe.

Connections!
* Genus name Hieracium comes from the Greek word for 'hawk', hieros. For a time, it was used as an herbal remedy for healing eyesight. The many varieties of hawkweed have proved a perennial problem for plant taxonomists.
