* Habitat: Deciduous forests at low elevation.
* Range: Northeastern and central United States.
* Native.

* 18th-century botanist Manassah Cutler wrote in 1785 that "...the young shoots may be eaten as asparagus. The roots are nutritious, and are used in diet-drinks."
