COMMITTEE ON LECTURES & CULTURAL EVENTS

To:                          Wellesley College Community

From:                     Charles Fisk, Chair, Committee on Lectures & Cultural Events (CLCE)

Subject:                 CLCE: Letter to the Community

Date:                      September 7, 2007

The Committee on Lectures and Cultural Events (CLCE) sets policy and administers endowed funds to enhance the intellectual and cultural life of the Wellesley College community.  The generosity of those who have endowed our various funds enables us to support a rich program of events, enabling the Committee to sponsor a wide range of on-campus lectures, panels, performances, and conferences designed and intended primarily for the College community, but also open to the public.

We encourage all members of the community--faculty, student organizations, administrative and union staff—to apply for funds to support lectures and events that they believe will contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of our community.

Normally applications come from organizations (such as student groups or academic departments) but individuals are also welcome to apply, so long as they find sponsors and co-sponsors for their proposed events. Funding is limited, and we cannot sponsor all events, nor sponsor every event fully. We also invite comments from all segments of the community on issues relating to event funding and policy.

To access CLCE application information and instructions, please visit our website at: http://www.wellesley.edu/CLCE/

Each academic department and/or interdepartmental program is entitled to $1,500 per year to support their internal cultural events and lecture programs. All requests must be approved in writing by the chair of the department before submission to CLCE.

Please address any questions to Katherine Rooks (x-2200, krooks), Administrative Director of the Committee.
