CS240 Laboratory

In CS240 Lab, students perform experiments which demonstrate basic concepts of Machine Organization. Students assemble and operate integrated circuits and other discrete devices using prototype breadboard systems and measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic probes.

Half the semester is spent on a group project (shown above), the design and implementation of a primitive micro-computer. The devices used in the design are primarily basic logic gates, with a few more complex IC's, such as RAM memory and ALU chips (and lots of 22 gauge wire, as you can see).
