Vannevar Bush was a very important man in the history of Computer Science, very intelligent and ahead of his time. In 1945, while he was President Roosevelt's Science Advisor, he wrote a paper entitled "As We May Think". In this paper, he talked about a thing called "Memex", a machine able to store huge amounts of information as well as create links among the related information. Essentially, what he was envisioning was the Internet. Later, he wrote another paper about MEMEX II, in which he described how videos and sound could be incorporated as well.
