  4. Comments: I started off by searching Yahoo, but that server didn't have any web pages on "COBOL" or its designer "Codasyl". Thus, by default, it went to the AltaVista web sites. However, I had to try several routes to get there. Only after going through the On-line Dictionary did I find out about "Codasyl" which made the search a little less complicated.

  4. Comments: I had to try several times before I got any substantial links. This server didn't contain that many relevant sites on the subject of COBOL.

  1. Search Engine: Lycos
  2. Search Phrase: COBOL
  3. Site Found: COBOL Foundation
    IBM Cobol Family
  4. Comments: This search was a little easier than the prior ones. The information found was still not very clear but it offered more than before

  1. Search Engine: Britannica Online
  2. Search Phrase: Cobol
  3. Site Found: Cobol Definition
  4. Comments: This was a fairly easy search compared to the others. It right away gave me tyhe necessary information I needed.

Generally speaking, none of the search engines proved to be that helpful. In most cases, there was no information found on the sibject of COBOL. The sites that I did find already assumed I knew about what COBOL is. Only, the Britannica gave me some information as to what I am dealing with. Furthermore, in most cases, when I searched for the term, I was linked to resumes from people who were familiar with the Computing language and thus, looking for jobs. I found it generally rather frustrating and not so much useful.
