Thinking It Through
Each year, approximately one-quarter of the graduating class attends graduate or professional school in the fall after graduation. From the Pathways for Women in Sciences study, a project at the Center for Research on Women, we know that approximately 60% of alumnae complete an advanced degree within ten years of graduation.
Thorough preparation for applying to graduate school in any field includes examining your career interests, meeting with faculty to discuss matching your academic strengths with programs, and familiarizing yourself with the graduate school information available both in academic departments and in the Center for Work and Service (CWS). Graduate school applicants apply for funding at the same time as they prepare their applications.
The Center for Work and Service offers a variety of resources for those planning graduate study: workshops, panel discussions, on-campus graduate school visits, advising by CWS counselors, and listings of off-campus programs. The CWS Library maintains a collection of graduate and professional school catalogs and online resources, directories of programs, rankings of graduate schools, and information on financial aid. Graduate school and financial aid bibliographies are available on request.
The CWS offers alumnae counseling during drop-ins at the CWS, Green Hall 441, when classes are in session. You may also book an in-person appointment with a CWS counselor or a phone appointment by calling the CWS, 781.283.2352.
