After a section on "How to Choose a Management Consulting Firm," the directory is a compilation of descriptions of major consulting firms. Entries include address, phone, recruiting contact, location of branches, job descriptions, and information on how the company recruits.

Case in Point: Complete Case Interview Preparation. Marc P. Cosentino. Ivy Productions, 2001. The author guides the reader through the case interview process. Information includes a definition and purpose of a case interview, sample questions, and a four-step system of getting through the process. Fifteen practice cases are presented (with answers) and five are given without answers.

Consultants and Consulting Organizations 2002. Gale Research Company, annual. Vol. I contains descriptive listings of consulting firms within categories (agriculture, architecture and design, arts and communications, business and finance, data processing and telecommunications, education, engineering and science, environmental concerns, health and medicine, human resources, management, manufacturing and transportation, marketing and sales, politics and social issues). Vol. II contains geographic, subject, and industries served, indices, personnel names and individual firms listings.

Management Consulting: A Complete Guide to the Industry. Sugata Biswas and Daryl Twitchell. John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2002. Career information on the field of management consulting includes a description of the work, essays by leading consultants, suggestions for mastering the case interview (with samples), and how to negotiate the best offer.

So, You Want to Be a Management Consultant. Wet Feet Press, 1999. After an overview of the consulting industry, information is presented on what a consultant does, the work environment, career paths and the recruiting process. Major consulting firms are profiled and a list of suggested readings is included.

Vault Guide to the Case Interview. Vault Inc., 2001. Case interviews for consulting applicants are defined. Real life interviews are presented, along with practice questions and analysis.

Vault Guide to the Top 50 Consulting Firms. Daniel McHugh and Maggie Geiger. Vault Inc., 2001. Fifty consulting firms are ranked as "prestigious" by practicing consultants. Entries for each includes address, locations, practice areas, number of employees, pluses and minuses, key competitors and contract information. The consulting industry is defined, including types of consulting. Job search information includes researching companies, resumes, interviews, case interviews, types of projects, job descriptions and career paths.

Finance


Beat the Street: the Wet Feet Guide to Acing Your Investment Banking Interviews. Wet Feet Press, 2001. Information is presented on the investment banking interviewing process and the preparation needed. Specific information is given on the first interview, the second interview, and interviews which may follow. Also included are sections on the offer, negotiating salary, and question and answer samples.

Career Opportunities in Banking, Finance, and Insurance. Thomas Fitch. Facts on File, 2002. The author describes over 80 careers related to finance. Entries include salary information, skills and education required, career paths, and related professional associations.

Careers in Finance. Harvard Business School Press, 2000. Directory describes jobs in investment banking, and finance jobs in manufacturing. Profiles of investment banks and companies include division information and the jobs within them.

Careers in Investment Banking. WetFeet, 2001. An overview of the investment banking industry is presented (trends, performance), major firms are profiled (investment banks and online services), and the workplace is described (corporate culture, diversity, compensation and benefits, career paths). "Getting Hired" section discusses on-campus recruiting and the interviewing process.

Opportunities in Banking Careers. Adrian A. Paradis. VGM Career Books, 2001. The author describes today's banking industry and the federal reserve system. Career information includes commercial banking, savings banks, financial companies, mortgage banking, etc.

Opportunities in Insurance Careers. Robert M. Schrayer. VGM Career Horizons, 2000. The author describes careers found within the insurance industry, including actuary work, underwriting, sales and auditing.

Plunkett's Financial Services Industry Almanac. Plunkett Research Inc., 1999. After an overview of the finance industry, the directory profiles 500 major banks, insurance companies, and mutual finds. Profiles include services, specialties, names of officers, addresses, phone and fax numbers, sales and/or profit statistics, locations, corporate culture statistics, and growth plans of the organization.

So, You Want to Be an Investment Banker. Wet Feet Press, 1999. After an overview of the investment banking industry, information is presented on the workplace environment and the recruiting process Major investment banks are profiled and a list of suggested readings is included.

Vault Guide to Finance Interviews. D. Bhatawedkhar. Vault Inc., 2001. The author presents an overview of the finance industry (investment, commercial, and related banking). Interviewing techniques are described and information on sectors and components of stocks, bonds, interest rates, currencies, options, and mergers & acquisitions are included to assist in preparation. A finance glossary is also included.

Marketing and Sales


Careers in Marketing. Harvard Business School, 2000. Directory contains profiles of marketing firms and departments. In addition, chapters include information on the marketing profession and brands management.

Careers in Marketing. Lila B. Stair. VGM Career Horizons, 2002. The author discusses the field of marketing in today's economy, careers in market research, product development, advertising, sales promotions and public relations, direct sales, retailing, corporate marketing, international marketing, and education. Also presented are strategies for beginning a career. Appendices list marketing journals, books and sources of information for job seekers.

Vault Guide to Marketing & Brand Management. Vault Inc., 2001. Career information on marketing and brand management is presented and includes definitions of marketing and advertising responsibilities of a marketer or brand manager, qualifications needed, and resume and interviewing techniques. Appendices include keywords and marketing case studies.

Hospitality/Travel/Recreation


Careers for Gourmets & Others Who Relish Food. Mary Donovan. VGM Career Books, 2002. The author describes careers with a focus on food: restaurants, catering, cooking, food science, food design and advertising, etc. Also included is information on finding a job and a list of cooking schools.

Careers in Casinos and Casino Hotels. Shelly Field. Checkmark Books, 2000. The reader is introduced to the many opportunities in the casino gaming industry including operations, public relations, sales, security, accommodations, food services, human resources, health clubs, and retailing. Entries for each job description contain information on salaries, advancement, education/training and skills needed.

The Good Cook's Guide to Working Worldwide. Katherine Parry. Impact Publications, 1999. Comprehensive guide to finding employment abroad as a cook first introduces the reader to courses, training, and placement both in the U.S. and overseas. A general overview of job search preparation is presented with a directory of major international employers. A regional guide describes opportunities in geographic areas and specific countries with unique positions for each (castles in Great Britain, villas in Italy, yachts in the Caribbean, sheep and cattle stations in Australia, ski resorts in the Alps, film festivals in Europe, fishing camps in the Arctic, safaris in Africa, etc.).

How to Get a Job with a Cruise Line. Mary Fallon Miller. Ticket to Adventure, 2001. The author describes over 180 potential jobs available on a cruise line, provides job search suggestions, and lists addresses of 40 cruise lines.

Opportunities in Event Planning Careers. Blythe Camenson. VGM Career Books, 2003. The author presents an overview of event planning, information on preparation and descriptions of various types of planners including independent planning, in-house planning, and wedding planning. Also included is a list of professional organizations, salary information and education programs.

Opportunities in Hotel and Motel Management Careers. Shepard Henkin. VGM Career Books, 2001. The author provides an overview of the field and education/training needed. He describes management jobs within the various departments (service, front office, back office) in the accommodations industry.

Opportunities in Recreation and Leisure Careers. Clayne Jensen and Jay Naylor. VGM Career Horizons, 2000. The authors describe recreation careers including outdoor work, travel, fitness, those with an environmental focus, etc. They include chapters on trends, educational training, job search, and professional contracts.

General Business


Company Profiles for Students. The Gale Group, 2003. The two-volume directory contains detailed information about major employers, and is directed especially for entry-level students. Headings for each company include "Strategy," "Products," "Global Presence," "Employment," and "Sources of Information."

Job Opportunities for Business Majors. Peterson's Guides, 1999. Includes sections on job-search strategies, and profiles of the top ten companies in the field. Directory section lists employers, their addresses, annual budget, number of employees, expertise hired, and a contact person. Gives comprehensive descriptions of some of the companies. Indexed by industry, geographic location, and hiring needs.

Opportunities in Business Management Careers. Irene Place. VGM Career Horizons, 1998. Describes management and discusses employment outlook, salaries, education, how to succeed, and the future of management. Also includes chapters on the job search. Appendices include a bibliography, a list of management associations, and managerial job titles.

Real People Working in Business. Blythe Camenson. VGM Career Horizons, 1999. Brief job descriptions of business fields include profiles of professionals. Areas include management, human resources, consulting, marketing, retail, manufacturing, purchasing, and health administration.
