The author discusses reasons to go to a "top" law school and how to research for a good match (teaching methods, work load, joint degrees, social life, etc.). He provides information on the application process, assessing offers, how to use rankings, choosing a topic and writing a personal statement (sample essays are found in the index), obtaining recommendations, how to handle rejection and accepting an offer. Quick overview of the admission process and writing personal essays is followed by interviews with admissions officers at five selective law schools. Law School without Fear. Helen and Marshall Shapo. Foundation Press, 2002. The authors present an overview of law (constitutions, legislation, courts) and law fields (civil and criminal). They outline types of courses (precedent and procedure) and define the roles of judge, jury, defense and prosecution. Chapters also include the use of legal reasoning, interpreting legal language, legal writing and conceptualizing policy. This "publication on internships for students interested in law" features interviews with faculty members, students, and alumnae and provides information on using the Center for Work and Service, what law school admissions officers are looking for, and when students should start looking for an internship.
