Career Opportunities in the Sports Industry. Shelly Field. Facts on File, 2004. The author describes many careers in the sports industry including professional athletes, team support personnel, administration, coaching and education, officiating, journalism, recreation and fitness, sales, and sports medicine. Appendices list degree or certification programs, trade associations, professional teams, media sports departments, and a bibliography. (GV734 .F545 2004)

Careers in Coaching. Jeanne Nagle. Rosen Publishing Group, Inc., 2000. The author defines coaching and describes careers in various settings: schools, community, and professional sports. Included are chapters discussing the daily routine, coaching issues, and women and minorities in coaching.

The Sports Internship Book. Career Education Institutes, 2002. Directory describes internships available with professional sports teams (majors and minors), leagues and associations, higher education athletic programs, and sporting events and tournaments. Entries include address and web address, phone and fax numbers, contact person, brief description of the organization and the internship(s), a list of preferred majors, stipend information, applications procedures and deadline(s).

Sports Market Place 1999. Franklin Covey Sports Division, 1998. Comprehensive directory of companies and organizations involved with the sports industry. Sections include "Single Sport Organizations, Professional Leagues & Teams, Publications," "Multi-sport Organizations, Publications, Arenas & Stadiums," "Sponsorship, Marketing/Event Management & Event/Meeting Schedules," "Sports Agents & Lawyers," "TV/Radio," "College Sports," "Manufacturers & Retailers," and "Professional Services." Indexed geographically.

Sports Marketing Insider Report. Experience Network. Ivey Productions, Inc., 1999. Chapter One presents an overview and current trends of sports marketing, discusses culture and trends in the industry, and takes the reader through the production of a sporting event. Chapter Two discusses traits and skills, coursework, and internship experiences of benefit to entry-level employees. Chapter Three describes entry-level positions, the pros and cons and career tracks of professionals. Other chapters include job search tips: the resume, interviewing, and resources for finding job openings. Twelve sports organizations are profiled with statistics on new hires, professional advancement and salaries, along with descriptions of entry-level jobs, suggestions for interviewing, and a contact person.
