Summer 2009
Purpose
The Paul B. Beal and Mona Phillips Beal Internship Fund has been established to encourage and facilitate practical learning experiences that will help Wellesley College students better define their career choices and develop a more informed understanding of the challenges and rewards of such choices. It is hoped that as a result of internship participation, students also will make more effective course selections at both the undergraduate and graduate level, learn more from those courses because of the perspective and experience they have acquired in their internship work, and become more competitive candidates for future opportunities in their chosen career paths.
Eligibility
The Paul B. Beal and Mona Phillips Beal Internship Fund will enable worthy Wellesley College students to apply for College sponsored internship programs in which they could not afford to participate without financial support. In the selection of stipend recipients, preference will be given to full-time students who are receiving financial aid for their Wellesley College tuition, but other students may apply based on demonstrated financial need. Funding support will be considered for any internship, but the highest priority will be given to students who are actively considering the pursuit of a career in business, law, government, medicine, or public health.
Applicants must be currently enrolled Wellesley sophomores or juniors in good academic standing, who are applying for a summer internship. Applicants must not be recipients of funding from other sources for the period covered by the stipend. Priority will be given to applicants who have not participated previously in any Wellesley College internship program. If at any time in the future, Wellesley College becomes a co-educational institution, eligibility will be restricted to female applicants.
