Health Insurance and Overseas Insurance

Health Insurance

All students are required to have health insurance in order to participate in a funded project. We recommend that you keep a copy of your card in a safe place or with a parent/guardian in case your card is lost or stolen. In addition, a copy must be left with the Center for Work and Service

For students with private/personal insurance:
Whether you are completing an internship in the United States or going abroad, it is important that you contact your health insurance provider prior to your departure to learn the extent of your coverage and the protocol you must follow in order to receive care in another state or country. Insurance cards should be carried with you at all times.

For students going abroad who are covered by Wellesley College Health Insurance:
The college insurance covers students who are studying or completing an internship abroad. Claims are covered at 80% and students have 90 days to submit a claim. Medical assistance provided abroad often requires payment for services when they are provided. Carry your insurance card with you at all times.

After medical services have been rendered, it is your responsibility to file a reimbursement form with the insurer carrier, along with the ORIGINAL receipts for reimbursement of expenses. At the beginning of the year all students covered by the college’s insurance were provided with a password and information on how to log into the insurance company’s Web site. When you log into the site, you can download a reimbursement form, track the status of your reimbursement, and even access a dialog box to communicate directly with the insurer. Carrying a copy of the insurance claim may facilitate reimbursement. If you need your password or information on how to log into the Web site, contact Wellesley College Health Services.

Students who are covered for the 2007-2008 academic year will have coverage until August 23, 2008. If insurance is needed after August 23, you must contact Student Financial Services to extend the coverage.

Overseas Insurance
Wellesley College provides coverage, free of charge, through International SOS for unforeseen travel and medical situations for students who are abroad on a college funded internship. Emergency assistance is available 24 hours a day. SOS does not replace your medical insurance. Students are required to carry this insurance and enrollment forms will be handed out during orientation meetings. All students must carry their own medical insurance.

If the CWS is contacted by International SOS, the student's emergency contact may be notified.
