Funding Resources

The Center for Work and Service has a variety of funding resources available to Wellesley College students and groups for community service internships, programs, and projects. Click on the program in which you're interested to obtain more information and an application form.

Academic year funding for Community Service positions:

The Federal Work Study/Community Service Program allows students receiving federal work-study funds to work in an area not-for-profit organization. This program allows students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience while earning their work study funds.

Funding for academic year and short term programs:

Katharine Timberman Wright Awards are offered jointly by the Center for Work and Service and the Wellesley College Alumnae Association. The Katharine Timberman Wright Awards recognize creative responses by a group of Wellesley students to perceived social needs, both on and off the Wellesley Campus. Funds have provided support for literacy projects, a public service corps and outreach summer programs to children at risk. Awards for second semester projects are up to $750.

Community Service Travel Grant provides funding to support short-term community service projects during Wintersession, spring break, and the summer. Small, one-time grants of up to $1,000 per student are awarded on a continuing basis throughout the academic year.

Community Service Quick-Fix Grants provide small amounts of funding to support short-term student projects that could not be anticipated far enough in advance to be covered by SOFC funding or the Katharine Timberman Wright Awards. Small, one-time grants of up to $300 for individuals and up to $500 for groups will be awarded on a continuing basis throughout first and second semester to support student community service projects.

Funding for internships:

The CWS Summer Stipend Program
Through the generous support of Wellesley alumnae, the Center for Work and Service administers a stipend program that places Wellesley students in positions in not-for-profit, for-profit, and public service organizations. The purpose of this program is to foster activism in one's community and nation. Priority is given to students stating financial need and who have never received a stipend. The applications are due Wednesday, February 27, 2008, 12 p.m., to the Center for Work and Service.
