Creating a link to the Campus Calendar default view:

If you would like to link a Web page to the Campus Calendar, keep in mind that there are two versions of the calendar, each with its own URL: the full on-campus version (can be accessed only by computers that are connected to the Wellesley College network) and the more limited public version (can be accessed by any computer on the Internet). In the public version of the Campus Calendar certain private events have been removed from event category listings, and location categories and features are not included. Choose the appropriate URL from the list below to link your page to the calendar. Each of the three URLs will bring up the default category and view - the current day view of the Featured events category.

  • Link to the Campus Calendar that detects whether or not the accessing computer is on the local network. This link will open the on-campus version of the calendar on computers that are connected to the Wellesley College network. The same link will open the public version of the calendar on computers that are not connected to the Wellesley College network.

Creating a link to a particular category and view of the Campus Calendar

The calendar includes a variety of event and location categories for event display. Each category can be viewed by day, week, or month. In some cases there is an option to view events in either a list or a grid. Some organizations (building management, departments, student groups) may want to provide a link to the calendar that does not bring up the default page but instead goes directly to a particular category and view.

After using the calendar functions to select your desired category and view options, the URL that displays in the Address or Location field of your browser's toolbar will reflect the choices you have made, however, this URL contains a specific date. If you would like for people using your web page to be able to link to a certain calendar category and view but have it adjust to the day, week or month when it is being viewed, you will need to remove the date from the URL when you create the link to the Campus Calendar from your Web page.

For example, if you would like to create a link on your Web page to weekly events in the Science Center in grid view, you would open the Campus Calendar in your browser, click Location on the banner of the calendar, Science Center in the location category list and the Week button. The resulting URL in the Address or Location field will be something like the following, which is shown as separated on more than one line because it is very long:

https://calendar.wellesley.edu/wv3/wv3_servlet/urd/ run/wv_space.
WeekList?spdt=20060826, spfilter=41287,lbdviewmode=grid

When you edit your Web page to create this link using Dreamweaver or other software, you should delete the portion of the URL that is in red in the example above (spdt=20060826 is the date that the URL was copied, year followed by month and day in number format). You should leave the rest of the URL as is, including the comma that follows the date, so that the URL has been changed to:

https://calendar.wellesley.edu/wv3/wv3_servlet/urd/run/wv_space.
WeekList?,spfilter=41287,lbdviewmode=grid

Then click OK.

The edited URL will now link to the calendar page for the Science Center in grid view for the week that is current when the viewer clicks on the link.
