In a broad sense the course is about how molecules effect our bodies and minds. We will look at a variety of legal and illegal drugs plus vitamins, poisons and herbal treatments. The focus will be on how these function, through an understanding of their molecular properties and biochemistry. Several diseases including malaria, AIDS, diabetes, cancers and heart disease will be covered with their treatments. We will also touch on the discovery, development and testing of drugs, and on addiction and its social consequences.
