I am a member of the NSF-REU Chemistry National Leadership Group which was established in 2001 to enhance the Chemistry REU program nationally. This is a group of eight professors from across the United States, and from a variety of institutions who have a particular interest in undergraduate research, and whose institutions currently have an NSF-REU program. We funded the REU Leadership Group Travel Awards to fund REU participant presentations of their research at the ACS meeting in Orlando, in April of 2002.

In 1995, I was the Principal Investigator on a grant proposal to the NSF-ILI program for the purchase of a GC-MS instrument. The grant was awarded, and we now use this instrument extensively in Organic Chemistry courses and undergraduate research.

In recent years, I have served as a technical editor and reviewer for three new Organic Chemistry textbooks. In January of 1997, I was invited to Washington, D.C., to serve as a reviewer for the NSF-ILI grant program.
