Help Stamp Out Bitmap Use

Bitmaps are needlessly large for use on computer screens, they tie up bandwidth, and they cause Macs to crash when using First Class. Here are some links that decribe methods for compressing files into .jpg (and .png) format for use in First Class (and other internet-based software):

<www.wellesley.edu/Chemistry/Flick/bmptojpg.htm> - a tutorial that I made on converting bmp files to jpg format (and optimizing the size) using Fireworks - requires the Flash plug-in (which you most likely already have) - if you don't have it, download it at www.adobe.com

<www.wellesley.edu/Chemistry/Flick/jpgquality.html> - a website that I did showing the difference in appearance of an image as you change the jpg quality

<www.wellesley.edu/Chemistry/Flick/bmptojpgirfanview.htm> an image-size reduction tutorial making use of the free image viewer and converter IrfanView (available only for PCs - <http://www.infanview.com>)
