About Me:Education:Ph.D., 1992 Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Peter T. Lansbury B.A., 1985 Haverford College Postdoc: Paul A. Bartlett group at U.C. Berkeley, 1992-1994 Visiting Researcher in the Peter S. Kim Lab at the Whitehead Institute, 1997-2000 Bio:I joined the Wellesley faculty in 1994. I teach organic and introductory chemistry and have taught seminars on HIV therapeutics, bioorganic chemistry, and combinatorial chemistry. I'm interested in alternatives to lecture and the use of peer-led team learning approaches in the classroom, and in incorporating current research into introductory organic chemistry. My research is in the area of bioorganic chemistry, that is, applying the tools of organic chemistry to the study of biological molecules. The molecules I concentrate on are proteins and peptides (small pieces of proteins). Current work is focused on understanding the aggregation of a-synuclein and its role in the neurodegeneration of Parkinson Disease. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and my daughters. I enjoy taking the girls to events on campus, including athletic competitions, the Wellesley College Dancers, and performances by musical and theater groups. I enjoy sports and am always looking for new athletic challenges. In October of 2001, I achieved one of my lifelong goals by completing the Marine Corps Marathon with my friend Anna Young. My older daughter Elise and I have completed the Tufts 10K Road Race together for nine straight years, starting when she was 7 months old. She has completed the last three on her own feet. Younger daughter Cori has four Tufts 10Ks under her belt, all in the stroller. We will do it again this October. |
