| I am an attorney and I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. In my Philadelphia-based law practice, I aid and counsel numerous employers and individuals on all aspects of our complex immigration legal system including asylum defense of foreign nationals facing deportation. I also advise and assist small businesses and multinational companies in the employment of foreign nationals as well as obtain permanent resident status for foreign individuals seeking to live in the United States permanently. While at Wellesley, I did not major in the Political Sciences nor did I take any courses in Government or Politics, or consider myself “pre-law”. I double-majored in English Literature and Linguistics. My undergraduate thesis was in my independent major, Linguistics – chosen because I was interested in the science of language acquisition and the emergence of dialects, and because I had a very keen interest in the etymological background of the rapidly-disappearing Portuguese Creole language of my paternal ancestors. I chose a field to major in that I enjoyed and wanted to explore academically and for personal satisfaction. My decision to double-major in Linguistics and English Literature was mutually exclusive from my decision to study law, but it was clear that my education at Wellesley was instrumental in helping to hone my analytical skills and critical thinking needed in the study of law. I currently practice in Philadelphia, PA at Morley, Surin & Griffin, P.C. |
