Advising In addition to providing rich academic opportunities for our students, Wellesley is committed to supporting our students as they seek to take advantage of those opportunities. All students need guidance and advice as they begin to define their academic goals and start to make choices about how they want to spend their time in college, and beyond. Learning how to make these decisions independently is often as important a part of a young woman’s education as the substance of what she learns in the classroom, laboratory, and library. Each student has a team of advisors ready to assist her during her time at Wellesley. Her Class Dean serves as a general advisor on all academic and personal matters, and is often a good first stop on the way to getting more targeted assistance. Faculty advisors for new students and major advisors for upperclass students bring their particular expertise into their conversations with young scholars. Resident directors in each of the residences provide our students with assistance in their co-curricular experiences, and they are resources for many of our peer advisors (including resident assistants, First Year Mentors, Academic Peer Tutors, and others). The Academic Starter Kit provides some general advice, geared especially for students new to Wellesley.
