Installation Instructions - PC
Where to find this software at Wellesley
The KeyServered version of Adobe Acrobat be found on all of the PCs in the Computing Labs, as well as on the PC in the Science Center Mail Room.
This KeyServered version was purchased for faculty and staff. Students are encouraged to use Acrobat on the computers in the Knapp Media and Technology Center.
System Requirements

- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5
- 128MB of RAM (256MB recommended)
- 460MB of available hard-disk space; cache for optional installation files (recommended) requires an additional 300MB of available hard-disk space
- 1,024x768 screen resolution
KeyAccess
Make sure you have KeyAccess installed. Adobe Acrobat is a KeyServered software, and KeyAccess is your "key" to using any KeyServered applications on our network.
To determine what version of KeyAccess is installed on your computer
- Double click on the My Computer icon on your desktop. Open C:\ Program Files.
- Look for a folder called Sassafras K2.
- If you have this folder then you already have KeyAccess 6 installed. If you don't, follow these instructions to upgrade your version of KeyAccess.

Uninstall Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Adobe Reader!
Do you have the full version of Acrobat 5 installed on your computer? If you
do, you will need to uninstall it before installing
Acrobat 7.
- Click on Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
- Look for any version of Adobe Acrobat in the list and select it.
- Click on the Remove button.
- Confirm deletion by clicking Yes and wait for a message that the program has been removed.
- If you see a message asking whether to remove a shared file, click on the No button.
- Click OK when the uninstall process is complete.
Remove the previous version of Adobe Reader that is on all faculty staff machines.
- Click on Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
- Look for any version of Adobe Reader in the list and select it.
- Click on the Remove button.
- Confirm deletion by clicking Yes and wait for a message that the program has been removed.
- If you see a message asking whether to remove a shared file, click on the No button.
- Click OK when the uninstall process is complete.
Installing Adobe Acrobat 7.0
- Check out the Adobe Installers for PC CD case from the Knapp Center or the Science Library.
- Find the Acrobat 7 Installer CD from the case and insert it into your CD-ROM.
- Open the CD and double-click on the setup.exe file. (If you get an install error, click here.)
- Note: If you have several Setup files and don't know which one is the setup.exe file, you need to turn on your file name extensions.
- From the Tools menu (at the top of the install folder window) choose Folder Options
- In the Folder Options window, choose the View tab
- Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types
- Click Apply
- In the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 window, click Next.
- In the Welcome to the Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional Setup window, click Next.
- In the Select EULA Language window, verify that US English is selected and click Next.
- In the End User License Agreement window, click Accept.
- In Customer Information window
- In the User Name field, enter Information Services
- In the Organization field, enter Wellesley College
- In the Serial Number field, enter 1118-1416-2489-9833-7240-3623
- Click Next
- In the Caching the Installer window, click Next.
- In the PDFMaker Installation and Integration Information window, click Next.
- In the Setup Type window, check Typical and click Next.
- In the Destination Folder window, click Next.
- In the Ready to Install the Program window, click Install. Acrobat will now begin installing the necessary files. This is a large install so it may take a while to complete.
- If a KeyAccess message appears (there may be more than one while the files are being installed), click OK.
- In the Setup Complete window, click Finish.
- Open the Acrobat 7 Installer CD again.
- Double-click on Reader7.exe. Click Run if you get a security warning message.
- In the Adobe Reader 7.0 window, click Next.
- In the Welcome to Setup for Adobe Reader 7.0, click Next.
- In the Default application for viewing PDF window, select Adobe Reader 7.0, then click Next.
- In the Destination Folder window, click Next.
- In the Ready to Install the Program folder, click Install.
- In the Setup Completed window, click Finish.
- Close all open folders.
- Launch Adobe Acrobat 7 by clicking on Start > Programs > Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional. If you are using Windows XP click Start > All Programs > Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional.
- If a KeyAccess window appears, click OK.
- At the Registration window, choose Remind me later, then click OK.
- Go to File > Exit.
- Launch Adobe Reader 7 by clicking on Start > Programs > Adobe Reader 7.0. If you are using Windows XP click Start > All Programs > Adobe Reader 7.0.
- In the License Agreement window, click Accept.
- Go to File > Exit.
- Eject the CD and return it to the Knapp Center or the Science Library.
- A new shortcut called Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional is on your desktop. You can also drag this file to the recycle bin. (Dragging a shortcut to the recycle bin will not erase the application from your computer.)
After the installation, when you open a PDF file on your computer for the first time, you may get a window asking you to choose the default application to open PDF files. Be sure to select Adobe Reader 7.0, and check Always use the selected program to open this kind of file, then click OK.
Remember that Acrobat 7 is a KeyServed application and only a certain
number of computers can use it at one time. Please quit from Acrobat 7 when
it is not in use.
