Booting from a CD on your PC


Determine your Hardware model:

Gateway E-3400 Gateway E-3600 Gateway E-4000 Gateway E-4100

Gateway E-3400

1. Turn off your computer. From the Start menu, choose Shut down then Restart. Click Yes or OK.

2. Once the computer is completely off, push the power button on the tower to turn it back on. As soon as you push the power button, press F1 button repeatedly until BIOS SETUP UTILITY window opens.

3. Use the left and right arrows on the keyboard to select Boot menu.

4. In the Boot menu, use the up and down arrows on the keyboard to highlight 1st Boot Device.

5. Make sure [ATAPI CDROM] is selected. If not, press Enter key to open the blue Options window. Select ATAPI CDROM, using the up and down arrows, and then press the Enter key.

6. Press F10 button to save and Exit. When asked 'Save configuration changes and exit now?', select [OK] and press Enter key.

7. The computer will start Windows. Once the computer is on, place the CD in the CD-ROM drive.

8. From the Start menu, choose Shut Down, then Restart. Click Yes or OK.


Gateway E-3600

1. Turn off your computer. From the Start menu, choose Shut down then Restart. Click Yes or OK.

2. Once the computer is completely off, push the power button on the tower to turn it back on. As soon as you push the power button, press F1 button repeatedly until BIOS SETUP UTILITY window opens.

3. Use the left and right arrows on the keyboard to select Boot menu.

4. Use the up and down arrows on the keyboard to select Boot Device Priority. Press Enter.

5. Make sure [ATAPI CD-ROM] is selected. If not, press Enter key to open the blue Options window. Select ATAPI CD-ROM, using the up and down arrows, and then press the Enter key.

6. Press F10 button to save and exit. When asked 'Save configuration changes and exit now?', select [YES] and press Enter key.

7. The computer will start Windows. Once the computer is on, place the CD in the CD-ROM drive.

8. From the Start menu, choose Shut Down, then Restart. Click Yes or OK.


Gateway E-4000

1. Turn off your computer. From the Start menu, choose Shut down then Restart. Click Yes or OK.

2. Once the computer is completely off, push the power button on the tower to turn it back on. As soon as you push the power button, press F1 button repeatedly until a white General Help window opens. Enter [OK]. BIOS SETUP UTILITY window will open.

3. Use the left and right arrows on the keyboard to select Boot menu.

4. Use the up and down arrows on the keyboard to select Boot Device Priority. Press Enter.

5. Make sure [ATAPI CD-ROM] is selected. If not, press Enter key to open the blue Options window. Select ATAPI CD-ROM, using the up and down arrows, and then press the Enter key.

6. Press F10 button to save and Exit. When asked 'Save configuration changes and exit now?', select [OK] and press Enter key.

7. The computer will start Windows. Once the computer is on, place the CD in the CD-ROM drive.

8. From the Start menu, choose Shut Down, then Restart. Click Yes or OK.


Gateway E-4100

1. Turn off your computer. From the Start menu, choose Shut down then Restart. Click Yes or OK.

2. Once the computer is completely off, push the power button on the tower to turn it back on. As soon as you push the power button, press F1 button repeatedly until BIOS SETUP UTILITY window opens.

3. Use the left and right arrows on the keyboard to select Boot menu.

4. Use the up and down arrows on the keyboard to select Boot Device Priority. Press Enter.

5. Make sure [4M-HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC] is selected. If not, press Enter key to open the blue Options window. Select 4M-HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC, using the up and down arrows, and then press the Enter key.

6. Press F10 button to save and Exit. When asked 'Save configuration changes and exit now?', select [OK] and press Enter key.

7. The computer will start Windows. Once the computer is on, place the CD in the CD-ROM drive.

8. From the Start menu, choose Shut Down, then Restart. Click Yes or OK.
