- To capture an image of the whole screen press APPLE/COMMAND,
SHIFT, 3 all at the same time.
- To capture a specific object, item, or image, press APPLE/COMMAND,
SHIFT, 4 all at the same time. A small plus sign will appear
on your screen. Place it on the top left hand corner of the image that
you wish to select then click and drag it to the bottom right hand corner
of the image. This technique allows you to crop the image the way you
would like it to appear on your document. Release the mouse.
- In MacOS X the screenshots will be saved to the desktop with the name Picture #. In OS 10.2 and 10.3 screenshots will be saved in PDF format. In OS 10.4 they will be saved in PNG format. Both formats can be opened on a PC
- To modify the image that you have just captured open an image editing
application such as Graphic Converter which is located on all Macs on
campus.
- Go to Mac HD>Internet Utilities>GraphicConverter.
- (Fireworks and Photoshop also work well.)

- To capture the whole screen, press PRINT SCRN
key. The PRINT SCRN key is located at the top right hand corner of the
keyboard, next to the F12 function key. Pressing the PRINT SCRN takes
a snapshot of your entire window.
- To capture just the active window, press ALT
and PRINT SCRN at the same time. Pressing
these two keys together takes a snapshot of the window you are currently
working on.
- Images are stored on a clipboard as a COPY.
- To view or modify the image that you have just captured you must open
an image editing application such as Microsoft Paint which is
located on all PCs on campus.
- To open Microsoft Paint, first go to the Start Menu located
at the bottom left hand corner of your screen. Then click on the following
Programs>Accessories>Paint located next to
a little image of a white cup holding paintbrushes.
- Once you have opened Microsoft Paint go to File> New.
Then Edit> Paste. Now your image will appear on your
screen!
- Photoshop and Fireworks are more advanced image editing applications,
which may also be used to edit screen shots.
