Evacuation
Plan for the Helpdesk
|
 |
In the event of a fire:
- Alarm/Alert: If you discover a fire, pull the nearest pull station
and yell out "fire". If you hear the fire alarm, hang up the phone and exit.
- Rescue: Only people and only if you are not putting yourself at
risk.
- Contain: Shut doors behind you as you leave.
- Evacuate: Get out of the building quickly.
- Regroup: Gather across the roadway by the Schneider
entry door for a head count.
Things to keep in mind:
- Stay low to the ground if there is a lot of smoke
and low visibility.
- Fire alarm pull stations are usually located next
to the stairwells.
- Close all doors behind you in order to contain the
fire.
- Keep stairwell doorways closed. If closed, stairways
are a safe place to be for 45 - 90 minutes.
- People unable to go down the stairs can safely stay
in the stairwell. Firefighters know to look there but should be alerted
if possible.
Exit Routes
The closest exit to the Helpdesk is the Clapp main entrance. If this exit
is blocked, use the alternate exit routes outlined below. They consist
of the stairwell next to Erin's office, and the stairwell parallel to that one
on
the
south
end of the building (towards Marge's office). Never take the elevators
when there is a fire or fire alarm.
Stairwell 2
|
Stairwell 1, Level 2
|
| Go down one flight of stairs and exit via Knapp
entrance/exit. |
Go down 2 flights of stairs until you reach the
basement and cannot go down any further. Exit through door and stairwell that ends up behind
Clapp in the parking lot. |
