1. All requests for a name change will now
be considered.
2. Send all logs to Deb Wilson - she will phone
each person and explain the implications of a name change.
3. The
8 letter username will NOT change (so Michelle Sham would remain KSHAM).
4. Users will also be informed by Deb that they need to
contact the Registrar or HR to have their preferred name entered
into the "preferred" field
in Banner.
When students filled out their applications for Wellesley
there was a "preferred
name" field. Many international students entered an American
name. Some students entered a short name (for instance Jen instead
of Jennifer).When accounts are created, the FirstClass administrators
use the "preferred
name" field hoping to avoid all of the requests for changes.
So, if anyone asks where their FirstClass name came from, tell them
it was in the preferred name field they filled in which went into
the Banner database.
NOTE: If a student wants to revert back to their
official name this can certainly be done. Inform the student why
it was created the way it was and send the log to Deb Wilson.
All
faculty/staff members have quotas of 400 MB. Quota increases are
given only on a temporary emergency basis, for example if someone
is on a trip and is unable to send messages or delete mail. However,
do not suggest to the caller that a quota can be increased.
Find
out what you can about the situation and offer information about
saving and deleting messages and attachments. If the caller wants
to talk to someone about quota policy or her/his situation, refer
the log to the FirstClass referral.
