Scheduling
The first two weeks of the semester, there are sign-up schedules that allow HelpDeskers to shop for classes. HelpDeskers can erase their names at any time from the schedule as long as they sign up for another shift.
After Add/Drop ends, the permanent schedule is in place and HelpDeskers are expected to work through finals. HelpDeskers sign up for the permanent schedule by filling out the online form stating the times they are available to work at the HelpDesk.
Shift times: 8:30am-9:45am,
9:45am-11:05am,
11:05-12:30pm,
12:30pm-1:25pm,
1:25pm-2:45pm,
2:45pm-4:30pm.
The HelpDesk is closed when the College is closed. During times when there are no classes but the College is open, a special schedule will be posted and students can sign up for shifts.
Payroll closes after the 1st and 15th of every month. Be sure to enter all your hours into the payroll website by those dates.
Release and Claim
If a HelpDesker is unable to work a shift, she is expected to release that shift on the HD Release & Claim conference so that another HelpDesker may claim it. She is expected to claim a shift at a later date. If the released shift is less than 24 hours away, she should email both Marge and Erin. If releasing more than one shift, a HelpDesker should create an individual message for each shift released.
To release a shift:
Create a new message with the subject: Release: Day, Date,
Shift Time.
For example: Release: Wed 4/7 12:30pm.
To claim a shift:
Reply to the message with the subject: Claim: Day, Date,
Shift Time.
For example: Claim: Tues 11/12 2:45.
Cell Phones
Use of Cell phones at the HD is strongly discouraged.
Cell phones should only be used for emergency purposes. An emergency would be defined as a medical problem, crisis at home, or a desperate situation that can't wait one hour. The only phones ringing at the HD should be our work phones!
If you must make an urgent call that can't wait, please ask the staff on duty if you can step into the hallway for a minute. If you expect to receive an urgent call, turn the volume of the ringer down and move away from your work station if the call comes in.
Keep in mind that this policy is for urgent calls only. No personal phone calls are allowed.
Snow Days
If the College is Officially Closed due to a snowstorm, you do not have to report to work!
The Library is considered an essential service if classes are in session and may be open all or modified hours during heavy snow. If Clapp is open, so is Knapp but the HelpDesk will be closed!
If you are scheduled to special assist, you may work on your project from your room, even though your supervisor is not in and still get paid.
Enjoy the snow and act a little flakey!
