Working for a Supervisor

If a student working for a faculty/staff member calls the HelpDesk, put the supervisor's username in the username field because:

• These logs deal with problems the supervisor is having with their computer and not the student.

• If a user is having many problems with her computer, we may want to pull up all the logs regarding her computer problems and if it is not cataloged under her name, we won't be able to access them.

• Problems sometimes occur only in certain areas of the campus and having the exact location of the computer can assist us in determining if this could be affecting the user.

Password Resets

If a student wants her FirstClass or Domain password reset, she needs to come to the HelpDesk.

1. She must show her Wellesley ID before we can refer the log.

2. Write in Immediate Steps Taken that she has shown you her ID and include the ID number in the log.

3. Tell her that her new password will be reset to a unique combination of four letters and two numbers. A staff member will contact her with this new password. During Add/Drop, this procedure is different. See HD/SA for the special password reset procedure.

Disk Repair

Students who have a damaged zip disk or flash drive may bring it to the HelpDesk. The HelpDesk will attempt to recover files on the corrupt disk using MacLink Plus or Norton Utilities. 

Student Resources

For students needing extra help that we don't provide, they have the following computing resources:

1. Fill out a ResNet Student Computing Help Form.

2. See an Instructional Technology Consultant for basic computer questions in Knapp and computing labs.

3. Post on Computing Questions in FirstClass.

4. Go to the Registar's Office for Banner Self-Service PINs.
