Operating System Upgrade/Ghost/Clone

If a user requests to ghost (Windows) or clone (Macintosh OS) their computer, or would like to upgrade their operating system altogether, please ask for the following information:

Model - E4100, E4300, G4, G5, etc.

Operating System - Win XP, OS X v. 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, etc.

Amount of RAM - 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, etc.

• Refer the log to the Mac or Windows upgrade specialist. On the Referrals page, you'll find specific information under Macintosh or Windows operating systems.

Please ask the user why they want their computer to be refreshed or upgraded. Sometimes it's a problem that you can help them with and doesn't require the computer to be completely refreshed.

New Hardware

If a user would like more RAM for their computer or a new computer altogether, please ask for the following information:

For RAM requests:

• How much RAM do they currently have?

• Why do they want more RAM?

• What's their computer model?

• Which OS?

For new computer requests:

• Why do they want a new computer or think they are up for replacement?

• What's their computer model?

• Which OS?

Refer these logs to the appropriate Mac or Windows upgrade specialist - do not send these logs to Repair.

Inherited Computers

In the case of new users with inherited computers, we create a new account for the user, but do not refresh the machine without explicit permission from the department.  If the department wants the computer refreshed, tell the user that they need to confirm that all the old files on the computer are backed up so we can refresh the machine. This is the responsibility of the department.
