Computer Security |
NOTE: If you have Ad-Aware SE Plus installed on your computer, please check your version and update to the new 1.06r1 update if needed! If you don't have this version of Ad-Aware and you are on campus, please go to the Computing Questions > Anti Virus Updates conference in FirstClass to install it. If you are off campus you will need to check out the VirusScan CD from Knapp or the Science Library and follow the included directions on installing, updating, and scanning with Ad-Aware.
Ad-Aware is used along with VirusScan to scan and remove unwanted programs ("spyware") that may cause problems with your computer. Some problems could cause loss of internet access, slowed computer performance, unwanted popup windows, or an invasion of your privacy. These programs may also report things such as the websites you visit and your personal information back to the companies that create the software in order to send you spam.
Manually Check for Updates |
Automatically Check for Updates |
If you have the latest version of Ad-Aware installed, check for Updates:
|
Ad-aware can be configured to automatically check for updated definition files. If an updated file is available it is automatically downloaded to your computer. This option could fail if your computer is slow to boot or if it takes too long to load your Internet connection at startup. If you experience any difficulties you can always manually check for updates.
