1. Before you begin, make sure all of the necessary windows are open.Choose Tools > Show Sample Info and Show Track Info if those windows aren't open.
  2. Click the Set button in the Reference Movie section of the main window and choose the movie you would like to add a text track to.
  3. In the Track Info window, choose Dimensions from the pull-down menu.
  4. If you want to create a text track at the bottom of your current movie, set the choices as follows
  5. Left = 0, Top = height of movie, Width = width of movie, Height = height of text track

    example 1: a video movie that is 320 x 240 would use Left = 0, Top = 240, Width = 320, Height = varies
    example 2: an audio only movie would use Left = 0, Top = 0, Width = 240, Height = varies

  6. Leave the Layer set to 0 and make sure Auto Scale is checked.
  7. In the Track Info window, choose Styles and set the font, size and style of your text. (If you are using American English, leave the Language as English and the Encoding as MacRoman. If you are using another language, talk to Heather about the correct settings.)
  8. In the Track Info window, choose Drawing and set your alignment and color.
  9. Click the Preview button in the main window.
  10. From the Window menu choose Normal Size.

    Note: If you change the size of the text track or any of the settings you may need to uncheck Preview and then recheck Preview and choose Window > Normal Size to make the changes appear.



  11. Click the Add button in the Tracks section of the main window to add a text track.


  12. Type your first line of text (or Title) in the Sample Info window.


  13. The text will appear next to the time it starts in the Sample area of the main window.
  14. Click the QuickTime Play button to play the movie and stop it at the start of the next section.
  15. Click Add in the Text Track 1 Sample section of the main window and type the text in the Sample Info window just as you did with the first line of text.
  16. Continue steps 13 and 14 until all of the text has been entered.
  17. Test the file by clicking on the Play button and watching the movie in the preview window.

    If you need to "tweak" the times so that the audio and text match up better, select the problematic text in the Sample area of the main window and then use the arrow keys on the keyboard to adjust the times for starting the text. You can also drag the playhead if you need to make a big change.

    If you need to change the text, select the text in the Sample area of the main window and then change the text in the Sample Info window where you originally typed it in.

  18. When you are finished choose File > Save and name the file. You will be able to open this file in Textation again if you need to edit it.
  19. To create the final QuickTime movie, choose File > Export and name the file filename.mov.
  20. Select the location you would like to save the file.
  21. Click the Make movie self-contained button and click Save.
  22. You should be able to play the final QuickTime movie in QuickTime Player by double-clicking on it.
