Downloading Pictures on a Mac

  1. Take the xD card out of the camera. Open the battery/xD card compartment cover, (see camera documentation for more details), and push the xD card slowly to eject the card.
  2. Remove the xD Card Reader's cover.
  3. Insert the card into the xD Card Reader, gold side facing down.
  4. Place the card reader so that the USB plug is on your right with the slot facing you (see pictures above). Insert the card into the xD Card Reader, gold side facing down. Find the moveable plastic piece next to the card slot and slide it in the direction of the arrows indicated on the diagram (see Figure I) to lock the card in place. The computer will not detect the xD card if is not locked.
  5. Connect the xD Card Reader to one of the computer's USB ports usually located on the back of the computer. A red indicator light on the xD Card Reader should blink when the card is first detected, then it will turn green when card is in use.
  6. An icon should appear on the desktop a few seconds after the xD Card is inserted. It should be called Untitled. (Please do not rename the icon) If you see a window with the following message, "Do you want to use iPhoto...", click Use Other and quit out of iPhoto.
  7. Double-click on the Untitled icon on the desktop. If the icon does not appear, make sure the plastic piece is set to the 'locked' position.
  8. A window will appear with a folder called DCIM inside it. Open the DCIM folder. Pictures are contained in a folder titled 100OLYMP.
  9. Copy the 100OLYMP folder by dragging it onto the desktop. On OS9 this will permanently remove the files from the USB drive.
  10. If the image files were not automatically removed from the xD card, delete the files after you have downloaded them. Return to the DCIM window and you should see the 100OLYMP folder. Drag and drop this folder into the trash can.
  11. Make sure you empty the trash!! This will permanently delete all the files from the xD Card.
  12. When you are finished deleting the pictures from the xD Card, drag the Untitled icon to the trash.
  13. Disconnect the xD Card Reader from the computer.
  14. Unlock card by sliding the moveable piece away from the xD Card to enlarge the Card slot. (see Figure II) Remove the xD Card from the reader by gently pulling out the card with two fingers and place it back into the camera slot.
